After watching the Masters Golf in Agusta (on TV) a few weeks back, I got the itch to dust the clubs off from storage and get to the driving range. The driving range closest to me this past weekend was Palmerstown Estate and I have to say its an impressive spot. If you couldn't tell from my website, I like data driven performance. Much to my delight, the Palmerstown driving range is fully kitted with Trackman teachnology. The mobile Trackman app connects to the console in your bay and off you go. Long and short of it, I think I like golf!

Track My Bag
Trackman have a cool function where you can map out the distance you can hit each golf club. Like a good scientist, I wanted to use this to set a reliable baseline or starting point. The track my bag function helps when you actually go out to play 18 holes of golf and want to know which club to use based on the distance to the flag. Although, Im not sure if everyone brings a range finder out on the course with them here in Ireland, but no harm in assuming they do! Check out the screen shot of where all my beginner shots went on the range (we can ignore the outliers!):

How Did I Do?
I know it says 66 shots there, but I deleted a few horrible ones to keep my average high! After 66 shots I could feel the body fatigue in ways I was not used to. Maybe this is due in part to my swing mechanics, or just my general conditioning targeted at rowing, but it definitely took it's toll. What stood out most was my leading forearm, and wrist, followed close by my left external obliques. I definitely could have warmed up better too, but as a novice not knowing how the process worked I just went for it full tilt. You can see my bag results below in the next screen shot. I thought my swing felt really comfortable with the Irons and pretty awkward with the woods and driver. But over all I am happy with the outcome and hit some pretty good shots for a novice who hasnt touched a golf club in 10 years.

What's Next?
I will most definitely be contacting the best golf coach I know, The Golf DPT Kevin Dishon. I couldnt recommend him more and if you want to check out his content on the gram click here. So much room to improve with those irons but in the meantime I will begin to incorporate more exercises into my sessions that facilitate good active range of motion, spine and shoulder mobility, and rotation power.
